Olympic Torch Relay - Torch Route

The Torch Relay enters the Faithful City from Fernhill Heath at 6:35pm on Thursday (24 May) and heads down the A38 Droitwich Road to the city centre, before reaching the cricket ground in New Road.

Recommended spots for watching the Relay, where there is plenty of room for people to stand, are St George Square on Barbourne Road, High Street, Cathedral Island in the Cathedral grounds and St AndrewŒs Gardens on Deansway.
 
On Thursday the torch will follow this route:

  • 18:36 Droitwich Road (A38), starting at the roundabout junction with Coombs Road. The relay will then follow Droitwich Road
  • 18:46 Barbourne Road (A38)
  • 18:56 Foregate Street (A38)
  • 19:00 The Cross
  • 19:02 High Street
  • 19:03 Pump Street
  • 19:05 Friar Street
  • 19:07 College Street (A44)
  • 19:08 Deansway (A44)
  • 19:12 Bridge Street
  • 19:13 Worcester Bridge
  • 19:14 New Road
  • 19:16 arrival at Worcestershire County Cricket Club

Vehicles from the three Olympic Torch Relay presenting partners Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung will be travelling ahead of the Torchbearers and will be giving out souvenirs of the event.

Events are expected to take place along the route to keep people entertained while they wait to see the Olympic Flame, including:

  • Face painting in High Street, near the junction with Pump Street, plus juggling stilt walkers, the Silurian Border Morrismen and live music from Jamie Knight

  • Refreshments and a competition for youngsters to draw "The Torch in Worcester" outside the Cathedral

  • Hula-hooping and Community Games with the Worcester College of Technology Sports Academy at St AndrewŒs Garden

  • Live music from the CollegeŒs Music Technology students outside the St Andrews Building in Deansway

  • Performing Arts studentŒs live performance outside the All Saints Building in Deansway.

On Friday (25 May), when the Torch sets off from Worcester at 7:58am, recommended spots are the Elgar Statue at Cathedral Island, College Green, South Quay and outside the cricket ground at New Road. Roads will be closed from 7.30am to 9am.

On Friday the Olympic Torch Relay will resume at the Cathedral, as it starts its next leg towards Cardiff:

  • 07:58 Start at Cathedral Plaza by the Elgar Statue, on to College Street (A44)
  • 08:00 College Green
  • 08:03 Kleve Walk
  • 08:06 South Quay
  • 08:07 New Road (A44)
  • 08:12 Bromwich Road (A449)
  • 08:27 Malvern Road (A449)

The Torch will then go on to Powick and Malvern.
