Probation Trust's Community Payback Scheme
Following a successful pilot scheme in Angel Place, we have contracted the West Mercia Probation Trust to undertake the painting of bins, bollards, railings and signposts in the city centre by offenders who are doing Community Service. This labour is free and is directed under strict supervision. The BID funds the cost of the materials and the time of the supervisor.
Since the launch of the BID, they have painted in the following streets: Pump Street, Mealcheapen Street, Friar Street, College Street, Bank Street, New Street, High Street, Broad Street, Angel Street, Angel Place, The Cross, St. Nicholas Street. Their Summer 2012 programme has included the South Quay area (by the fountains on the riverside), Sidbury, St. Swithins Street, Edgar Street and more of the High Street.
The work usually takes place on a Tuesday (when it is dry!) with around 6 offenders and a full work programme is in place to work on the areas where need is greatest. The work complies with the baseline agreement written with the City Council and does not replace anything that they are statutorily obliged to do.
Feedback has been excellent to date and we are always keen to hear from businesses who feel that we should focus on their street. Below are some images of the work undertaken including a before and after shot.
