Starstruck in the Cathedral 15th August to 6th September 2009

A Dash of Hollywood and some Worcestershire Sauce!

A touch of good old-fashioned Hollywood glamour will descend on the magnificent location of Worcester Cathedral this summer, when an exclusive Costume Exhibition is opened to the public.

STARSTRUCK, will feature a dazzling array of up to 100 costumes worn by major stars in a series of BAFTA and Oscar award-winning films, as well as TV & theatre productions. These include costumes worn by Kate Winslet, Keira Knightley, Johnny Depp, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Madonna, Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow and Heath Ledger to name just a few!

Worcester Cathedrals Event Manager Debbie Liggins is working with the curator Kate Bailey who works extensively for the V&A and specializes in the production of theatrical exhibitions throughout the country.  For Kate, this three-week exhibition will be the culmination of months of work in researching costumes, contacting their designers, tracking down the authentic articles and carefully displaying them for the exhibition.

The Dean of Worcester, Peter Atkinson said, Its a truly majestic backdrop for these beautiful costumes. There will be over eighty costumes, and we will be creating several dramatic tableaux, incorporating props to give a really theatrical feel.

Many of the costumes will be sourced from long-established film costumiers as well as the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The exhibition will run from August 15th to September 6th with the aim of raising money for the Cathedral, its mission and outreach.

The Cathedral will provide refreshments in the Chapter House from 10am to 5pm (Mon to Sat) and 12.30pm to 3.30pm (Sun) for the duration of the exhibition and the Cathedral Shop will be selling all sorts of costume paraphernalia!
