Food
A TASTE
of traditional English food, a culinary journey round the globe,
a leisurely dining experience in classy surroundings, or, if
you have a family in tow, a fast-food snack on the run - you
name it, Worcester has something for your plate and your palate.
The 18th-century Guildhall Assembly Room might not be the first
place that comes to mind for a meal but it's certainly worth
including on any visit to the city.
Not only can you nip in for a spot of lunch (try the rib of
beef) but you can also marvel at the chandeliers and paintings
on the wall, which give a fascinating glimpse of past times
and customs.
The King Charles II Restaurant, as you'd expect, also offers
traditional English food but you could pop into the Bridges
Carvery or the Farriers Arms, too.
If the taste of food from around the globe is more to your
liking, take a trip to Mexico (Amigos, naturally, or Chesters),
Thailand (Thai Crystal, Thai Gallery or Siam Smile), India
(Pasha, Iqbal's, Purbani, Monsoon or Sylhet Balti Tandoori),
or Italy (Little Venice, Benedicto's, Valentinos or Puccini's) without even leaving the city.
And if a hint of luxury while you eat is to your liking, head
for Browns Restaurant and have a superb, relaxed dining experience.
There's no shortage of coffee shops or cafés either
if all you want to do is a quick snack or drink. Take your
pick from Clockwatchers, Hodson's, Coffee Republic or Natural Break.
On the fast-food front, the presence of Burger King, McDonalds and
Subway Sandwiches prove America is
alive and well and living in Worcester.
And, of course, no visit to the city is complete without stopping
off in at least one of Worcester's many pubs and bars. Traditionalists
might fancy the sound of The Cricketers or The Farriers Arms,
or the wonderfully-titled Swan With Two Nicks, but if your
preference is for modern bars, take your pick from RSVP, The
Slug &
Jug or The Conservatory Cafe Bar.
